From the jump, Jurassic World’s re-launching of the Jurassic Park franchise in 2015 was planned to be a trilogy.

With a third film set for release in just under three years, the franchise’s Claire actress Bryce Dallas Howard is giddy when talking about what’s to come in an interview with ComicBook.com. The actress opened up about the franchise in promotion of this week’s blu-ray release of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, looking to the future as many in the film industry are now trained to do.

This interview contains a small possible Fallen Kingdom spoiler

After bringing in $1 billion at the worldwide box office and setting up the next installment of the franchise in a way that opens up the story even further, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is now available on Blu-ray, 3D Blu-ray, 4K Ultra HD and DVD with a slew of bonus features that includes behind-the-scenes features and interviews and a look at what it takes to bring these awe-inspiring dinosaurs to life. Directed by J.A. Bayona and executive produced by Steven Spielberg and Colin Trevorrow (who is currently working on developing the third Jurassic World film, set to be in theaters in 2021), this terrifying adventure saw Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) uncover a deadly conspiracy that could bring the planet back to prehistoric times and change life as we know it forever.

During this 1-on-1 phone interview with Collider, actress Bryce Dallas Howard talked about what it means to her to be a part of the Jurassic World franchise, signing on for such a huge series of movies, how it’s all about the dinosaurs, what she’s heard about the third Jurassic World film, her own hopes for where the story will go next, quintessential Jurassic moments, the evolution of her character, and the coolest thing about being a part of such a huge movie franchise. She also talked about how much she loved being a part of Rocketman, about the life of Elton John (with Taron Egerton in the role), and her plans to direct.

Collider: Jurassic Park was a movie that made a huge impression on so many people because watching it in the theater really made people feel like dinosaurs are really alive, and the success of all that has led us to where we are now with the franchise. So, what has it meant to you to be a part of Jurassic World?
BRYCE DALLAS HOWARD: It’s exactly what you said. I remember being 12 years old and going on opening weekend to watch Jurassic Park, and it just absolutely blew my mind, even though I was a kid who grew up on movie sets. I’ll never forget it. It was a real turning point for our industry, in terms of the kinds of stories that we could tell, because it looked like we were looking at real dinosaurs. It was unbelievable! So, for me now, as an adult, to get to be a part of this is absolutely thrilling, but what’s more thrilling is that I’ve got kids who are the same age that I was when I saw Jurassic Park, and now they’re getting to experience this, all over again. It’s incredible! It’s an incredible adventure to be a part of. It’s one of those jobs that any actor would have killed for an opportunity in, so you’re like, “Oh, my god, I’m so lucky!” The success of the movies is not because of me. It’s a rare thing when you can be a part of a movie like that, where you don’t feel like the movie is gonna succeed or fail, based on your work or your performance. It’s about the dinosaurs

Before coming to Jurassic World, you hadn’t really done anything like this franchise before, so did you have any hesitation about signing on to it, in the beginning, or was it just an immediate yes, from the beginning?
HOWARD: Of course, it was an immediate yes! I got involved around May of 2013, and then the movie actually got pushed and no one else was cast yet. There was awhile where it was like, “I’m doing this, and damn, it’s not happening,” and I wasn’t really allowed to talk to people about it. And then, finally, when the movie got the green light and was happening, Chris [Pratt] was cast shortly thereafter and it became real. From the get-go, it was just me, desperately hoping that it would happen, and then it came through. And so, the fact that there’s now multiple movies is so great.

What have you heard about the final film in this trilogy?
HOWARD: I’ve talked to a lot of different folks who are involved. Colin [Trevorrow] is writing it now with Emily [Carmichael], and she just brings such an incredible perspective and voice. They have been quite close for awhile, and Colin’s been a huge supporter of her work, and vice versa. The fact that they’re working on it now is exciting and inspiring. I saw them last week, and it’s good. It’s really, really good.

Especially with the way that Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom ended, do you have any personal hopes, for what could happen, now that it feels even more wide open?
HOWARD: I think we’re gonna be seeing these characters be faced with impossible choices to make, and circumstances beyond their wildest dreams and nightmares, where these animals are now a part of the world again. It’s not just about a handful of dinosaurs that were able to be re-animated, and one hybrid dinosaur that is monstrous. Now, not only are the animals out there, but the technology is out there, as well. Who knows what people can create? I’m just really excited to see this imagined world changing.

Was there a moment on this film that felt like a quintessential Jurassic moment?
HOWARD: There are a lot of moments that feel like that. When we were on set, we would always say that it was “classic Jurassic.” That was the phrase that we used. When we would say that, you knew that it was working. Whenever you’re running, it feels very Jurassic. Looking in wonder and awe at something above you is very Jurassic. What’s cool about these movies is that, other than the dinosaurs, it’s meant to be a totally realistic, grounded world. Not a lot is being invented here. It’s real people, in a real situation, dealing with dinosaurs. That allows for performances to stay really grounded. You can have those really honest reactions that you would have, if you were confronted with an animal. It’s fun like that.

I’m a big music fan, so I’m also very excited about Rocketman, about the life of Elton John.
HOWARD: Thank you! I loved getting to work on that.

Bryce Dallas Howard has revealed she had to blow dry her crotch with a hairdryer to stop her sweat from showing whilst filming action scenes for ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’
Bryce Dallas Howard suffered from “Swamp Crotch” whilst filming ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’.

The 37-year-old actress reprises her role as Claire Dearing in the fifth installment of the dinosaur action franchise and whilst shooting scenes on location in the sweltering heat in Hawaii – which is used as the set for the fictional Isla Nublar in the movie – her outfits would show up embarrassing sweat patches from the intense action scenes.

But Bryce came up with an ingenious solution to her sweat problem.

Speaking on ‘The Graham Norton Show’, she confessed: “It was so hot in the jungle that my trousers showed all the sweat! So I used a hair dryer to get rid of the stain – it became so normal I would do it all the time and in front of anyone.”

Her co-star Chris Pratt, 38, also revealed another challenging part of the shoot was when the cast had to spend long hours submerged in water so director J. A. Bayona could get the perfect shot.

Pratt hinted that the cast resorted to “peeing in the pool” in between takes even though they weren’t meant to, because he never saw anyone go for a bathroom break.

The Hollywood hunk explained: “We were nine days in the water and there was a lot of chlorine – there were a lot of people in there! And whilst you weren’t supposed to pee in the pool nobody actually got out!”

Bryce interjected to tell Chris he wasn’t supposed to spill their on-set secrets and joked that she tried to “stay dehydrated” to stop her needing to pee.

She said: “There was a certain amount of freedom being in the water! You’ve been telling that story for seven months now and I am so very ashamed – I did try to remain dehydrated!”

Claire Dearing wants you to adopt a dino! Cute idea!

April 25, 2018

t has been confirmed Jurassic World stars Bryce Dallas Howard and B.D. Wong have joined the upcoming Jurassic World Evolution theme park simulator game.

With Steven Spielberg first opening the gates to the iconic park back in 1993, Universal’s Jurassic franchise has grown to be something of a monster. As well as the release of J.A. Bayona’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom on June 22, fans of the Muertes Archipelago island can also look forward to two dinosaur-related games.

With Jurassic World Evolution also set for a June debut, the team at Frontier Developments have dropped a few more details about some impressive voice talent. Confirming that Howard and Wong will reprise their roles as Claire Dearing and Dr. Henry Wu, Evolution is making good on its promise to touch on key characters and events from the movie franchise while also charting new territory.

Howard is a relative newcomer to the sci-fi franchise – joining with Jurassic World back in 2015 – while Wong is a Jurassic veteran. Appearing in a minor role in Spielberg’s original, Wong returned for a villainous turn in Jurassic World. Both are set to have major roles in Fallen Kingdom, but fans will be overjoyed that the characters will factor into the video game as well.

Putting gamers in charge of that treacherous theme park, Howard and Wong join the hotly-anticipated return of Jeff Goldblum as Dr. Ian Malcom. Goldblum’s mad mathematician will reportedly guide gamers through a series of moral choices. It is unclear what role Howard and Wong will play, but given that Claire was originally in charge of park operations and Wong is a famed geneticist, it could be a hint to how they will fit into the game.

Theme park simulators are nothing new, with the likes of Theme Park World being a distant cousin to Evolution. Players can do everything from build attractions to bioengineer their own horrifying monsters similar to the Indominus Rex. Announced back in August last year, Jurassic World Evolution will be the bigger brother to 2012’s Jurassic Park Builder, which later became Jurassic World: The Game to tie into Colin Trevorrow’s reboot movie. Now, as Frontier brings the idea to next generation of consoles, gamers can play god on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

Away from Evolution, Jurassic game aficionados can also enjoy a Pokémon Go-style game called Jurassic World Alive. However, considering that Goldblum gave Evolution his highest rating of 10/10 Goldblums, there are no prizes for guessing which game everyone is more excited for. Considering that Frontier’s game will allow players to live out a lifelong dream to become their very own John Hammond and run the park, Jurassic World Evolution is an idea that has been brewing for many since 1993. Remember, just be careful around the T-Rex paddock.

I will definitely picking this novel up when it’s released!

It’s finally happening. The Jurassic Park universe is canonically expanding beyond the films. One of the most requested things from fans has continuously been an expansion of the fiction, whether it be via an animated series, comics, novels, or more. It now seems Universal has listened, and the first expansion will be coming May 2018 in the form of a Young Adult novel by Random House Books.

The novel, seemingly awaiting a more formal title, is currently titled ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Hardcover Young Adult Novel’. While the title isn’t much to go off of, Random House has also provided an exciting synopsis on what readers can expect:

Discover the beginnings of one of Jurassic World‘s most beloved characters–Claire Dearing–in this original action-packed young adult novel.

During the events of Jurassic World, Claire Dearing faced the savage fury of dinosaurs unleashed . . . but it wasn’t the first time. In this entirely new coming-of-age story, Claire lands an elite internship working for Simon Masrani and soon discovers his plans to build an all-new theme park–Jurassic World! Along the way, Claire establishes valuable relationships with both her peers and the prehistoric creatures she studies, but when the situation turns dangerous, she begins to see the dinosaurs in a different light. Fans of Jurassic World will delight in filling in the gaps of Claire’s past, all while gaining insights into the experiences that transformed her into the strong woman we know today.

May 08, 2018 | 304 Pages | Young Adult

The Young Adult fiction genre is typically considered to be written for ages 12-20’s, though the exact age range isn’t particularly defined, nor does it dictate who can enjoy the writings. This isn’t the first time the franchise had side stories via books, as the Jurassic Park Adventures series based on Eric Kirby’s adventures existed, but those targeted younger ages and were widely considered non-canon by fans.

The timeframe for this prequel novel is interesting, as it seems to begin before Jurassic World was event built, and will likely dive deep into the backstory of how Masrani Global handled InGen assets, and became the corporation we saw in the 2015 film. While it follows Claire’s perspective, the novel will quite possibly cross paths with individuals like Dr. Henry Wu, Vic Hoskisn, and other players, like the already confirmed Simon Masrani.

Will we see the cleanup of Nublar, the construction of Jurassic World, and inception of of ideas like the Indominus Rex in this novel? Time will tell – and hopefully it may even clarify longstanding question like the fate of Isla Nublar, why Hammond endorsed Jurassic World after his character motivation shift in The Lost World, and perhaps dig deep into pieces of the fiction the films have never touched upon.

But most off all, the novel will take us through the character evolution, motivation, and growth of Claire Dearing (played by Bryce Dallas Howard in the films), who Colin Trevorrow has previously stated is main character of the Jurassic World trilogy. It’s especially great to see a leading women take the spotlight and kick off the official Jurassic expanded universe, where as the easy and expected route would be putting someone like Owen Grady in the spotlight.

We’re excited, and hope this is only the first book of an exciting Jurassic World EU – the opportunities are endless, and we can’t wait to read the novel! If this is only the tip of the spear, perhaps in time a Dr. Henry Wu book series will come as well, detailing the timeline between Jurassic Park and Jurassic World, explaining how and why he comes off so cold in World, and dive deep into science of InGen not seen since Michael Crichton created the franchise.

Finally, dinosaur enthusiasts also have a publication to look forward to, which also seems to dive into the expanded fiction of Jurassic World – the ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Dinosaur Survival Guide’:

Relive the excitement of the blockbuster film Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom–which opens to US audiences on June 22, 2018–with this must-have survival guide!

Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom releases in theaters on June 22, 2018, bringing with it all the wonder, adventure, and thrills of one of the most popular and successful franchises in cinema history. This all-new motion picture event sees the return of favorite characters and dinosaurs, including Blue, the Velociraptor; Tyrannosaurus rex; and Mosasaurus–along with new breeds more awe-inspiring and terrifying than ever before!

This indispensable full-color survival guide features all the facts about the Jurassic World dinosaurs that you need to know to survive on the island–as well as the top-secret history of how it all began.

May 08, 2018 | 80 Pages | 6-9 years

Top secret history of how it all began? Say no more. Perhaps this visual guide will finally give a defined canonical explanation of the dinosaur variations seen throughout the franchise!

Let us know if you will be picking up the Claire prequel novel, and what stories you hope the expanded universe digs into! And as always, stay tuned for the latest news.

In the first movie he seemed to be under constant attack by rampaging dinos.
But it seems Chris Pratt’s latest enemy is the ocean itself, as he and Bryce Dallas Howard struggled to clamber out of the surf on Friday while shooting Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom in Oahu, Hawaii.
Chris, 38, is reclaiming his role as Owen Grady, while Bryce, 36, is reprising her role as Claire Dearing.

During filming, the duo could be seen scrambling on their stomachs towards the beach as the ocean roils around them.
Of course the downtime between takes meant that the stars could cavort in the waves in a sillier manner, leading at one point to the pair basking in the sun together.

Awards season is over — but not for Bryce Dallas Howard.

The actress is finishing up a gig as one of the guest judges for the second annual Moet Moment Film Festival, a short film competition sponsored by the champagne brand. On the heels of news that the due date for entries has been extended to March 27 — with a winner scheduled to be revealed at a Tribeca Film Festival dinner party on April 26 — The Hollywood Reporter caught up with Howard, a task easier said than done.

She’s in the thick of filming the as-yet untitled sequel to Jurassic World, reprising her role as Claire in the anticipated J.A. Bayona-directed flick alongside Chris Pratt. But during a break on set, the 35-year-old was game to give updates on the new installment, why she loves Beyonce so much and what it means to her to be dubbed the “Everywoman’s Fashion Icon” by Vanity Fair.

You’re back at work now filming the sequel to Jurassic World. I know you’re working long days — thank you for fitting in this interview — so what is it like to be back in those shoes? And are they high heels again?

Making a Jurassic film is challenging, exhilarating and most importantly fun. No matter the footwear, Claire is a woman who gets things done. I’m so excited to be doing it a second time. Plus Chris Pratt is here every day doing his spontaneous dance parties — what’s better than that?

Jurassic World 2 is finally gearing up for production.

Director J.A. Bayona and the rest of the Jurassic World 2 production team have finally begun work on the Jurassic World sequel to make sure that the film lands somewhere close to its expected release date. The film’s producer Frank Marshall signaled the beginning of the film’s production with a photo shared on Twitter.

The new reveal from Marshall doesn’t offer up much in terms of the plot of Jurassic World 2, however according to a report by Cosmic Book News, Colin Trevorrow has indicated that the untitled Jurassic World sequel would be much scarier.

“It will be more suspenseful and scary. It’s just the way it’s designed; it’s the way the story plays out. I knew I wanted Bayona to direct it long before anyone ever heard that was a possibility, so the whole thing was just built around his skill set,” the original Jurassic World director revealed in an older interview.

Slated for release on June 22, 2018, Jurassic World 2 will see the return of Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. While Trevorrow is back writing the script for the film together with Derek Connolly, the directorial reigns have been given to Bayona.

Seemingly the entire planet has been waiting for the sequel to 2015’s wildly popular movie, Jurassic World ever since we watched Bryce Dallas Howard coax the T-Rex out of her habitat to battle the great Indominus Rex.

Now, Howard has confirmed that the sequel has not only being produced but also that the production is beginning very soon. According to Howard, she and co-star Chris Pratt will both be returning to their roles for the second movie, tentatively titled Jurassic World 2. As she told Entertainment Tonight, “I’m getting ready to go to [film] Jurassic [World 2]. I’m leaving really soon. It’s awesome. Now we’re in the flow of things where everyone is talking every day and we’re gonna go put on a show!” The latest installment in the storied Jurassic Park franchise earned $1.67 billion worldwide and was the second highest grossing film in 2015 domestically (only behind The Force Awakens), so it was pretty much a given that a sequel was on its way.
